Green Garbanzos

I know, you wanted to see some more macarons...but you'll have to wait for those!  I just had to get this post up while fresh chickpeas are still in season!  For those of you in the area, I spotted them at Russo's this past weekend, but they've also been seen at Indian stores.

At first I had no idea what to do with them, but I opened one up to reveal green chickpeas!  When I came across a recipe for a Fresh Garbanzo Salad with Mango, I knew the fate of my little green brains :)  Check out the recipe at cate's world kitchen!

I brought this side dish to a friend's house for lunch, and everyone really enjoyed it.  The salad was delicious, and a hit with my friends, but next time I pick these up, I might just wind up eating them like edamame!

Have you ever tried fresh chickpeas??  If so, how did you prepare them?

I've only had them once - we ate them edamame-style, steamed in the pods with salt. Good to know they are available now!

I just had them last week, and I loved them! Which is shocking because I don't like regular chick peas. I found them waxier, more like edamame in texture. So good! Had them at Beacon Hill Bistro with a risotto.

It had never occurred to me that chickpeas were once fresh and green. Does this mean that all beans are "green beans" at some point?

Oh Russos...I love that place. I will still drive out of my way to go there. I've never seen these though!! They look awesome, I think I would love that salad!

I bought some of these at Formaggio's last year and had no idea what to do with them! I think I ended up putting them in a salad. This reminds me I should try them again this spring!

Why yes, I have! I recently tried them for the first time as part of a halibut dish in Chicago - and you better believe that the fresh garbanzos, something that's been eluding me for a while, were a big part of the reason I picked that meal!

These are super cute! They remind me of fresh fava beans sort of. I'm a huge fan of even normal canned chick peas, so I could imagine loving these!
