I made two recipes, and enjoyed the different texture hominy added to the stews. I'd throw it in every once in awhile to mix things up, but to be honest I'd probably throw some quinoa in there next time or make some cornbread ;) They were solid recipes though, so if you're looking to try it out these would be a good place to start.

The first recipe was a Green Chile Pork Posole from Bon Appetit (recipe here). My only change was to use a jar of tomatillo salsa instead of fresh tomatillos (couldn't find them at the store). The second was a Turkey & Hominy Chipotle Chili from the NYTimes (found here).

Have you ever tried hominy? I'm thinking Joanne has the right idea with her hominy puree, maybe I'll have to give it one more shot!

I love hominy. We used to eat it all the time as kids. Sauteed in butter. YUM. I made some recently in olive oil with some garlic and it was tasty!
Tupelo has some great hominy!
You didn't like the hominy?!? Bummer! I love hominy, especially in soups and stews. Though recently I made an enchilada/quesadilla filling that called for, among other things, hominy and potatoes, and it was *quite* tasty.
Ah well. At least there's always cornbread, right? :-)

I've never cooked with hominy, but have been curious about it for a while. Both recipes sound delicious, and perfect for the lingering cold weather!
I love anything corn flavored so I'm pretty sure that's why i adored the hominy so much! I'm definitely going to have to try these out though! It's so cold here that I think chili season will probably be extended by another month!

I've never bought it, and couldnt tell you when I've eaten it but I'm sure I have. I feel like I've only recently been hearing about it more, and I like the sounds of it, but yeah if your not familiar with it, its hard to figure out the best way to use it. Those chili's look great!!

I love hominy - the only thing I don't like about it is that I have yet to find a small can - they are all huge, but love the taste and texture.

me too, I'm a hominy lover. I use it a lot with black eyed peas and salsa. We call it Texas caviar!

Very fun! I'm a sucker for buying unique ingredients that catch my eye - and then letting them sit in my pantry forever. Asian grocery stores especially suck me in, in this way as do the amish stores where they sell foodstuffs in bulk. I've gotten so many random whole grain flours that way. I think I need to challenge myself to use more of it up!

That chili looks sooo good! Especially with the guac on top :) I do enjoy hominy, but I think it has to be done right!

You know, I've only had hominy once (at Hungry Mother) and I wasn't a big fan, but I should try cooking with it too!
