Did I conquer my fear of yeast?? A foccacia here, flatbread there, some pizza dough that wasn't half bad, and now this... I think I just may have! I think the pizza dough was the best learning experience for me. I'm still not overly-comfortable, but with an open package of yeast after my flatbread and a rosemary tree, I jumped at the chance to make some homemade pretzels :) These have been on my "to-make" list for awhile now, so now was as good a time as any.
I followed a recipe from Baking Bites, via the Peanut Butter Boy, cutting it it back to 1/3 as to account for the amount of yeast I had left (why i didn't just open another package i don't know...). Also threw in about 1T rosemary as that's in abundance right now :)
There's something about homemade bread that smells freakin fantastic, and is so irresistable when it comes out of the oven that there's no denying it, even if it is midnight!! (yeah, i started them a bit too late!). SOOO good warm, I'd recommend eating them this way :)
And if you're not a reader of Jaden's Steamy Kitchen yet, you should be! Here's a reason to start, she's hosting a HUGE Holiday Giveaway with a bunch of really fantastic products that would be such a treat to recieve.

mmmm I love soft pretzels! I've been wanting to make my own for a while now! Yours look like they came out really well! Nice work :)
Oh I love these! When I was in high school, I worked at a mall and there was an Auntie Anne's across from my store. I used to eat their cinnamon sugar pretzels on my break!
Love pretzels!!! I've never made myself.... really need to try it!
Thanks for the link to those fab giveaways!
Nice job! It looks soft and yummy.
It's been a while since I've made pretzels -- I must fix that. I don't think I've ever had an Auntie Anne pretzel, but I did try the soft pretzels that a group of Amish were making at the farmer's market, and it wasn't very good. =(
i have such a killer fear of yeast! you may inspire me to attempt my own pretzels tho :)
Those turned out great! Fresh out of the oven...fresh rosemary, YUM!
YUMMY! Those look beautiful Shannon!Love that they're baked - I've made pretzels and they got dropped in oil.
AMAZING!!! Your yeast-baking is quite inspiring, my friend.
I'm also afraid of yeast. . .will use you as a role model! These do look great (and I'm sure the smell was very enticing)!
I've had pretzels on my list for a while now too. I may have to try these during my break.
These look really delicious! Looks like you shouldn't fear yeast with results like that :D
Does yeast go bad after opening a package?
Looks great - and I have no idea who Auntie Anne is - but I get a cinnamon sugar pretzel every time I go to the mall - lol.
yes, I am one of those bakers that is afraid of yeast and have yet to get the heck over it.
these look so good, and I love that smell as it's cooking.
Mmmmm Auntie Anne's! I love those things, especially the cinnamon ones... but I'm sure your homemade pretzels are leagues better'n hers.
I love soft pretzels. You did an amazing job!
I love soft pretzels! Those look amazing!!
:)
I give you mad props for this. I am so yeast-a-phobic. And I love Auntie Anne's. They put pheromones in their dough, I'm positive. I smell it and go nuts.
mmmm yummy!!! My hubby would love these!!!!
They look great. :-)
Wow those pretzels look great! I've never tried my hand at them before, but you make them look so easy I might give it a try!
soft pretzels! yours look wonderful...
Oh my these just look wonderful! The smell of those pretzels in the mall. Ohhh. I can't even imagine it in my house!
I love that sometimes you're still puttering around the kitchen late at night! Me too! There are days when I just HAVE to bake, and even if the baking project runs a little late into the night, it's worth it to me.
Aren't pretzels fun to make? I made some sugar cookies that are shaped into pretzels a while ago, and I thought they were the cutest things ever. A little bit more work than scoop-and-drop cookies, but sometimes it's fun to be artsy in the kitchen.
Have a great week, Baker Extraordinaire!
I have a fear of yeast too...if you got over it maybe I can try!! These pretzels look great! I would love to make my own!
