Who's Auntie Anne anyways?

Did I conquer my fear of yeast?? A foccacia here, flatbread there, some pizza dough that wasn't half bad, and now this... I think I just may have! I think the pizza dough was the best learning experience for me. I'm still not overly-comfortable, but with an open package of yeast after my flatbread and a rosemary tree, I jumped at the chance to make some homemade pretzels :) These have been on my "to-make" list for awhile now, so now was as good a time as any.

I followed a recipe from Baking Bites, via the Peanut Butter Boy, cutting it it back to 1/3 as to account for the amount of yeast I had left (why i didn't just open another package i don't know...). Also threw in about 1T rosemary as that's in abundance right now :)


There's something about homemade bread that smells freakin fantastic, and is so irresistable when it comes out of the oven that there's no denying it, even if it is midnight!! (yeah, i started them a bit too late!). SOOO good warm, I'd recommend eating them this way :)

mmmm I love soft pretzels! I've been wanting to make my own for a while now! Yours look like they came out really well! Nice work :)

Oh I love these! When I was in high school, I worked at a mall and there was an Auntie Anne's across from my store. I used to eat their cinnamon sugar pretzels on my break!

Nice job! It looks soft and yummy.

It's been a while since I've made pretzels -- I must fix that. I don't think I've ever had an Auntie Anne pretzel, but I did try the soft pretzels that a group of Amish were making at the farmer's market, and it wasn't very good. =(

yes, I am one of those bakers that is afraid of yeast and have yet to get the heck over it.
these look so good, and I love that smell as it's cooking.

Mmmmm Auntie Anne's! I love those things, especially the cinnamon ones... but I'm sure your homemade pretzels are leagues better'n hers.

I give you mad props for this. I am so yeast-a-phobic. And I love Auntie Anne's. They put pheromones in their dough, I'm positive. I smell it and go nuts.

I love that sometimes you're still puttering around the kitchen late at night! Me too! There are days when I just HAVE to bake, and even if the baking project runs a little late into the night, it's worth it to me.

Aren't pretzels fun to make? I made some sugar cookies that are shaped into pretzels a while ago, and I thought they were the cutest things ever. A little bit more work than scoop-and-drop cookies, but sometimes it's fun to be artsy in the kitchen.
