Babka
You can find my recipe for Babka here, adapted from several of my great grandmothers recipes. This year I used poppyseed filling from a can, but you can be sure that I'll try to make my own next year!
Nut Bread & Poppyseed Bread
Nut Bread Filling (for 1 loaf, or half of babka recipe w/o raisins):
1/4lb ground walnuts
1/4c brown sugar
hefty sprinkle cinnamon (to taste)
1 egg white, whisked
1t butter
Mix well with a fork. If you need a little more liquid, use up to 1T warm milk. Spread out evenly over dough, then roll up! Secure ends under the loaf of the bread, allow it to rise for a second time (2hrs) and then brush with egg wash and bake for ~35min, until it sounds hollow when tapped. Yum!
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

How sweet that your recipes have been in your family for so long! Bread baking is totally not my thing so I am very impressed.
These breads sound fantastic! I love the nut filling!

I am so intimdated to bake my own bread!!
Do you do shipping? I'd pay big bucks for your awesome sweet breads! Wow!
Bread is so fantastic :) I love that you were able to make three unique creations from the same base. I want to try doing something similar. Have a great day!!
I've never been too good at making bread myself, but these do look amazing!
What scrumptious breads! Both the poppy seed and nut filling sound so good.
back to say now that Passover is, well, OVER Im trying the easter breads :)
Those breads look gorgeous, particularly the swirls! And the giant slice of bread cutting board is awesome.
Wow - gorgeous breads! I admire anyone who does homemade bread. One day I will do it myself! That day may still be far away, but...
sorry that i am tardy to the party but the bread...nice!!!!
can't wait to see what your creativity comes up with next!
Those breads are absolutely gorgeous. You always do such a nice job in the kitchen. Also, isn't it fantastic when your family requests things. I personally love that!
Hmmmmm... Looks so tender and tasty!
Your breads look so pretty Shannon, especially the one with poppy seeds filling.
Your breads look so professional! I love that bread slice-shaped cutting board. So cute! Honestly, I don't think I would know where to begin if I were to bake my own bread. My mother used to tell me stories about the home-baked bread her mother used to make and how it was the best thing in the world. Unfortunately, my mother never wrote down any of the recipes and my grandmother didn't either. Thus, reading that you baked these breads from passed down recipes made me smile. Treasure those recipes forever and don't forget to keep passing them down!
I love the swirl!
I love it that you make bread. Not many people even make their own sandwiches these days, let alone bread!
And it looks stellar!!!!
I never see it as a delicous bread. Happy Easter, God bless
