Quinoa w/Gruyere & Veggies

Wow, seems like forever since my last post, it's been busy!! I got to dog-sit this weekend, and I had a blast :) It was fun to get them playing with opposite ends of a chew toy! Here are the pups, cause they're just too cute not to share...

Sampson

Dante, making himself comfortable!

Some other goings-on in blogworld: check out Lauren's post here to help support the Maryland Food Bank and don't go to Hangry Pant's giveaway for Zoe's Granola ;-) You can also check out this list of 10 healthy foods you may not be eating. I can't actually remember if I've tried broccoli rabe (strange...), but I did pick up some at the store a few days ago. I also don't eat many brazil nuts (although this may be leftover from childhood, when all i liked were peanuts!).

Speaking of broccoli... I made this Gruyere Quinoa w/Sauteed Mushrooms & Broccolini which was very yummy. The nuttiness of the gruyere and quinoa played together well with the pan-roasted veggies. I meant to throw in some extra protein (chicken, tuna, or tofu), but I got lazy. I actually just had to look up the difference between broccolini (a hybrid between broccoli and Chinese broccoli) and broccoli rabe (more related to a turnip than broccoli)! Learn something new every day :) We'll have to see what I do with that broccoli rabe... any suggestions??

sorry so fuzzy!!

Dog sitting is so much fun! Always makes me want a puppy after I do it. Gruyere and quinoa sounds like a faboo combination! I will have to try that some time.

Quinoa and gruyere sound excellent together! I recently saw a good recipe for broccoli rabe, I think it was sauteed and tossed with almonds.

Broccoli rabe is a FAVORITE of mine (as is quinoa, by the way, even though my roommate looks at me weird whenever I cook it...gotta love the whole grains). I made it recently with pasta and turkey sausage, which is a pretty traditional Italian recipe. It's also great sauteed with garlic, olive oil, and red pepper flakes. It's really good on pizza as well. As you can tell, I really love the stuff :).

I haven't been able to find broccoli rabe at the store. I think it's also known as "rapini." Do you know? Anyway, I love gruyere.

Jess- rapini is another name for broccoli rabe, you know, just to confuse people :)

Is Dante a dog or a pillow? I can't tell from that picture ;-) He reminds me a little bit of the dog my family had when I was about as tall as Dante...I miss that dog like you wouldn't believe!

Gruyere and quinoa together sounds really yummy! And with the pan-roasted veggies, even better.

I've cooked with broccoli rabe many times. I guess my favorite is
Shells with Broccoli Rabe...

Check it out:

If you search for broccoli rabe in my blog you will find a few more as well.

P.s. the pups are so adorable!

Awwww - what cuties!! The quinoa looks fantastic! I need to try this recipe -- mmmm. BTW, broccoli rabe is delish (can be a tad bitter). Anna is right on with sauteeing it in olive oil & garlic. So tasty & healthy :)
